If you’re considering ordering the abortion pill online, there are specific risks you need to know about to ensure your health and safety.Â
Read on to learn more about these risks and possible next steps. Or, feel free to contact A Woman’s Concern—we’re happy to answer any questions and provide information to help you make an informed decision.Â
What Happens When I Order the Abortion Pill Online?
When you order the abortion pill online, you aren’t required to have an in-person doctor visit first. Instead, you can receive the abortion pill by mail after a teladoc appointment, which is where you speak to a physician by phone or on a computer.Â
Receiving the abortion pill by mail means that you’ll be required to take the drugs at home. While cramping and bleeding are the most common side effects, you may also experience nausea, dizziness, diarrhea, and weakness.Â
Why Is It Risky?
The abortion pill isn’t recommended in certain situations, some of which are not possible to discern during a teladoc appointment.
The abortion pill is only FDA-approved if your pregnancy is less than 70 days old. If your pregnancy is further along, you’re at greater risk for complications that can include:
- The abortion pills not working and the pregnancy does not end
- Some of the pregnancy tissue is left in your uterus
- Blood clots in your uterus
- Bleeding too much or too long
- Infection
- Allergic reaction to one of the medicines Â
. The abortion pill also isn’t recommended if you’re experiencing an ectopic pregnancy (which is when the pregnancy grows outside the uterus).Â
The age of your pregnancy and ectopic pregnancy can only be revealed during an ultrasound exam, which must be performed in person.
