If you're scheduled for a confirmation of pregnancy appointment (or are thinking about it), you may be wondering what to expect when you arrive. Here's what it's like:
Are you wondering what to expect at a pregnancy test appointment? We’re here to help!  First things first! You can get directions to our location here. You’ll find us near the intersection of South West End Ave/Hershey Ave and Millersville Pike/Manor Street. You can enter from Millersville Pike or the alley next to the gas station on Hershey Ave.
Parking is available on-site at the back of the building, and our main entrance is clearly marked at the back of the building as well.
When you walk through our purple door and into our lobby, the first thing you’ll do is check in with one of our friendly receptionists. You’ll spend a few minutes filling out some paperwork, and then one of our guides/peer counselors—we call them advocates—will escort you to a patient room. If you have a guest with you (your partner, a friend, or a family member, for example), we will ask them to wait in the lobby initially, but they will be able to join you later if you’d like.
Our client rooms are a bit like a living room, because—even though you’re likely feeling nervous or overwhelmed—we want you to be as comfortable as possible. We work hard to create an environment that feels warm, caring, non-judgmental, and safe.
Once you’re seated, your advocate will go over our limitation of services and ask you some basic questions. She is here to advocate for you, guiding you through your time here and making sure you know all your options. After you’ve talked with your advocate, she will go get the nurse who will then escort you to the medical room where she will go over some medical history questions with you. She will then guide you through the pregnancy test process, which takes about five minutes.
Based on your results, she may offer you an ultrasound to see if the pregnancy is viable and to determine how far along you are in your pregnancy. If you do have an ultrasound exam, your guest, if you have one, may join you once our sonographer has completed her basic assessments.
When you are done with the ultrasound, you will be taken back to the patient room where your advocate will go over your next steps and schedule a follow-up appointment if necessary.
Here at A Woman’s Concern, we are here to help you get the facts and learn what options are available to you based on the results of your ultrasound exam. It’s your decision, but you don’t have to make it alone.
